In brief

A Lago di Braies elopement is booked through our Dolomites elopement package, starting from €3,800, and a full luxury wedding weekend based here starts from €5,800 — both already include the private boathouse coordination and permits this location requires.

Those figures cover the photography itself. A private boathouse rental, if you want the classic rowboat photograph, is a separate cost paid directly to the boathouse — we explain exactly how that works below, since it's one of the most common questions we get.

What a Lago di Braies session costs

Lago di Braies is covered under our standard elopement package (from €3,800) for two people or small groups, or our luxury wedding package (from €5,800) for larger celebrations based here. There's no separate 'lake fee' — the price reflects the package tier and timeline, not the specific location.

Because this is the single most photographed lake in the Dolomites, most of what couples are really paying for here is logistics: early-access timing coordination around the historic boathouse, and a sunrise schedule that avoids the crowds arriving after 9am.

Why sunrise, and what's included

Regular public boat rentals run from around 08:30 on a first-come basis, and the lake is genuinely crowded from mid-morning through the afternoon in peak season. Every Braies booking is built around a 05:45–07:30 sunrise window specifically to have the pier and the water to yourselves, with commercial photography authorization and boathouse timing coordination handled as part of the package.

For a longer day, we regularly pair the sunrise session here with a late-morning visit to Prato Piazza, the quieter alpine meadow ten minutes away — two distinct backdrops from one shared travel morning.

The boathouse fee, explained

One of the most common questions we get is whether the rowboat is included in our price. It isn't, and it shouldn't be — the historic boathouse is an independent, third-party operation, and its private rental (roughly 90 minutes, two wooden rowboats) is booked and paid directly with them, typically for a fee in the low hundreds of euros. What our package covers is the photography, the timing coordination, and the required commercial photography authorization for the nature park — not the boat itself.

If a private slot isn't available or you'd rather not book it, there's also a public walk-in rental once the lake opens to day visitors around 08:30 — shorter and cheaper, around €50 for 45 minutes, but strictly first-come-first-served with no advance booking. Almost every couple we photograph here chooses the private option specifically to guarantee time on the water during the quiet sunrise window rather than competing for a public slot later in the morning.

How this fits into a total trip budget

Photography is only one line item in a Dolomites elopement. Across independent photographers and planners in this region, couples report total trip budgets — travel, lodging, a small vendor team, the boathouse rental and photography together — landing anywhere from a modest, no-frills trip to well into five figures, largely driven by travel choices, season and how many extra vendors are involved. Our own package pricing above is fixed and published; it's the surrounding costs, not our fee, that vary the most from couple to couple.

For a full breakdown of how photography compares to lodging, floral design and the other line items across an elopement, an intimate wedding and a full luxury wedding, see our complete Dolomites wedding cost guide — it puts this location's specific costs in the context of the wider trip budget rather than treating photography as the whole picture.

What can move the price above the starting figure

A handful of factors regularly move a Lago di Braies booking above the €3,800 starting price for an elopement or €5,800 for a luxury wedding: a second location added to the same day (commonly Prato Piazza given its proximity), multi-day coverage for a full wedding weekend, or a luxury add-on such as the helicopter transfers covered in our add-ons guide. None of these are required — the base package is a complete, standalone offering — but they're the most common reasons a final quote differs from the headline starting price.

Comparing this location's cost to our other locations

Lago di Braies isn't priced any differently from Seceda, Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Cortina d'Ampezzo — all four share the same starting prices for the same package tiers. What genuinely differs between them is the specific third-party costs layered on top: Braies has its boathouse fee, Tre Cime has a toll-road charge, Seceda has cable car tickets bundled into the package itself. None of these differences are large enough to make one location meaningfully more expensive overall; they're worth knowing about mainly so a quote from us doesn't come as a surprise next to what you might have read about a different location.

If you're comparing locations primarily on cost rather than scenery or terrain, the honest answer is that budget shouldn't be the deciding factor between them — pick the location that matches the mood you want, since the starting price is the same wherever you land. Whichever one you choose, the same weather-alternate planning and full-resolution delivery apply without exception, so the decision really does come down to which landscape speaks to you most, not which one is easiest on the wallet, since all four carry the identical starting investment either way.

Booking timeline

We recommend securing your date and photographer 6 to 12 months ahead, particularly for June through August or the first two weeks of October, when both our calendar and the boathouse's calendar fill fastest. The boathouse's own time slot is typically confirmed much closer to the date — usually a matter of weeks out — so there's no need to have that exact detail locked in when you first book. Late September to mid-October adds golden larch colour to the same sunrise session at no extra cost; for a full breakdown of how season affects the day, see our guide to the best time to elope at Lago di Braies.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an extra fee for the boathouse or the lake itself?

We don't charge a separate 'lake fee' on top of our package price. The boathouse's own private rental, however, is a separate cost paid directly to them — typically a few hundred euros for about 90 minutes with two rowboats — not billed by us, but not free either.

Why does the package cost more for a wedding here than an elopement?

The luxury wedding package (from €5,800) covers a longer, multi-hour day with two photographers and a larger deliverable set; the elopement package (from €3,800) is built for two people or a small group over a shorter session.

What if we can't get an early boathouse slot?

The boathouse's own time slot is normally confirmed a few weeks before your date, which is generally enough lead time given the boathouse only operates roughly May through October. If a private slot genuinely isn't available, we plan the session around the shoreline trail, or the shorter public walk-in rental, instead — still before the bulk of the day's crowds arrive.

Do we need a permit to take photos at Lago di Braies?

A permit is required for the commercial photography activity itself under Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park rules, which we hold and manage as part of every booking. Simply walking the shoreline and saying private vows needs no permit at all — that distinction only matters for the professional side of the day.

How much should we budget for the whole trip, not just photography?

That varies enormously by travel choices, season and how many other vendors you bring in — independent Dolomites photographers report all-in elopement trip budgets ranging from modest to well into five figures. Our own photography pricing above is fixed; it's the travel and lodging side that couples should budget individually.
